Abstract
The
essence of the field of social work began with issues regarding poverty, abuse,
maltreatment, education, neglect, exploitation, health, and safety. For over
300 years, these issues have been at the forefront of Child Welfare policy,
which deems to help children and their families remediate adverse life events.
This paper will review the history of child welfare policy and its connections
to the social work profession. As a dialogic, insights will be shared on how
this relationship affects current social work practice.
