This paper provides a
review of food safety regulations across all seven continents. Based on a
review of Google and two databases (PubMed and Academic Search Complete), the
paper summarizes the organizations involved in regulation of food safety and
their main approaches. Results indicate that some continents have specialized
agencies to oversee food safety across the entirety of continents (e.g., Europe
and Africa), while others do not (e.g., North America, South America, Asia,
Antarctica). Yet, deaths associated with food contaminants do not correlate
with this finding, as deaths tend to be highest in Africa and Southeast Asia.
